There's something to be said about growing up in the mountains of east Tennessee. Southern culture and Americana lie around nearly every corner - in the storefronts, the sounds of the forest.
I was born in Chattanooga, TN and moved to its suburb town of Signal Mountain, TN at age six. My love for music was initiated early and heavily inspired by my father, brothers, and other family musicians.
I grew up on my dad's eclectic influences including R.E.M., Blink-182, Luna, The Smiths, and Drive-By Truckers. For my 10th birthday, I got my first electric guitar from Target and played it as loud as my 10 watt shit amp would allow.
The Sawyer boys soon got a drum kit and bass, and us angsty teens polished our Green Day, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Blink-182, and Nirvana covers. The energy learned and power felt from playing those songs still resonates in my music, performance, and songwriting today.
In high school, I began to fall in love with Americana, or Folk Rock, or whatever you want to call it. This led to the formation of my first real deal band - High Meadows Communion. I was by far the youngest in the band and was only 15 when we got started, but grew as a songwriter real quick. The 2 or 3 years with High Meadows Communion were some of the best years of my life, but good things must come to an end, and all the members older than me headed off for college, and left me behind, bursting at the seems with songs to write.
nter Drumming Bird. This has been my outlet for creating and releasing music since 2014 and has taken several forms since. I am happy to announce Drumming Bird's first real deal studio is in the works, and with the help of some of my best friends will be released in 2018. This album is a culmination of rock n roll, dreams, heartbreak, stories, love, longing, and the landscape that raised me. In addition, I've begun a project called Sawyer + Kimes with my good friend Chloe Kimes. Look for music from us in the future. Thank you for being a part of this history, and I hope for my music to remain a part of your future.
